Friday

I painted two more classrooms this morning, so that will probably be all I will get done here. This noon I was invited to a family's apartment to eat. the elevator up to their floor was about the size of a telephone booth,so with 4 people is was full! It was a wonderful meal with pasta, salad, potatoes, lots of big mushrooms (breaded and fried), Artichoke, and cream puffs. The have a computer program that they are learning English, so they had a lot of questions of how to say different words. We went to an old (1200's) compound that was on the sea. It was quite something. This afternoon we went to Scicli for bible study and we made pretzels and ate them for lunch after. After we made the pretzel with dough, they were put in boiling water with baking soda for a couple of minutes and then into the oven.I could teach you! It sounds like a full day tomorrow, so I might not get a blog in but I hope to be able to take some pictures of the mediterranean sea meets the Ionia Sea.

  1. Dear Frank...have been thinking of you daily and praying for your health and safety. I haven't been able to get our computer onto the internet here...must be firewalls or something prohibiting my connection...anyway, have talked with Aaron and he gave me the email blog so our traveling buddies Arnold and Carol have their computer and have been able to connect so we can get your blogs!!! Sounds like you have been very busy painting and caring for people...as we read your blogs, it is amazing...you are tech savvy...you are patient and caring...you are a good painter and you know how to improvise...so think you have been prepared for all aspects of this mission!!! We haave now spent 2 wks at the Scottsdale Links where we enjoyed their new swimming pool and great temps, then 1 wk at the Scottsddale Camelback where Don and Arnold enjoyed some tennis matches and we all enjoyed pool time there. Don and I took a hot air balloon ride up over the area to 7500 ft. and I'm afraid of heights...but had no problem as we just glided and loved it!! Upon laanding there was champaine, a duck canape, lemon tartlet and truffles all set on a pink linen tablecloth with candlelight and stemware out in the dessert at sunset...quite an experience. We also enjoyed our sunset time at "The Sanctuary" around Camelback Mt. ...the rock protrusion on the mt. is the shape of a praying monk...very serene and peaceful there. Now we have spent 2 wks here at Fountain Hills with pplans to leave here on Feb 12th and head for home...Wienk's will be flying to get home to help with calving. Thought of you so when my daily reading yesterday began with "I awaken to a new day and behold the wonder around me." You will never regret pursuing this experience...Love-n-wishes from all of us here...Don, Mar, Arnold & Carol
